Set it Off Again

In 1996 there was a movie that came to the theaters that took the industry by storm. There was action, crime and romance all n one. F. Gary Gray directed the movie and was a box office hit bringing in gross revenue of over $36,000,000 in a short period of three months. The movie that I am talking about is none other than "Set it Off". You can view trailer here. The stars of the movie were Queen Latifah (Cleo), Jada Pinkett-Smith (Stoney), Vivica A. Fox (Frankie) and Kimberly Elise (T.T.). Some of the other stars in the movie were Detective Strode played by John C. McGinley, Detective Waller played by Ella Joyce, Keith Watson played by the most sexiest man alive Blair Underwood, and Black Sam played by none other than Hip-Hop Rapper, Producer, and Entrepreneur Dr. Dre.

The movie is based in Los Angeles, California where all four of the leading ladies reside. The ladies plan to rob one bank, but eventually ends up going on a spree of bank robberies. They all have their reasons for wanting to make some quick cash, but not realizing the consequences involved for everyone around them. Ti-Ti loses her son to the system, Stoney brother is killed due to mistaken identity, Frankie was fired from her job because she knew the guys who robbed the bank she was working at and Cleo wants to have the finer things in life.

The movie takes you on a roller-coaster ride with non-stop action but ends up very tragic. After planning to rob one last bank due to their money being stolen by their old boss, things don't go the way they planned. The way the movie ends there is only one survivor. The first to die is Ti-Ti after the bank robbery went wrong, followed by Cleo who thinks she's built like a brick-wall and no bullet could phase her.lol. The movie then flips to Frankie being caught by the police and for some odd reason I don't know what made her think she can out run a swat team and not be shot and killed, but she tried and obviously didn't succeed. The movie then shows Stoney on the bus headed to Mexico. The Detective, who is responsible for her brothers' death spots her on the bus, but allows the bus to keep going without apprehending it. I guess that was his way of saying "I am sorry for the mistaken identity of your brother and murdering him". The movie ends with Stoney moving to Mexico and starting her life all over again with all the money from the robbery.

Now, the flyer above has been circulating all over the Internet that a Set it Off 2 is in the works. The movie is written, directed and produced by a man named Donald Dankwa Brooks with Nother Brother Entertainment. The release date has yet to be determined. I have never heard of this Producer/Director, but what I do know is he needs to fire his graphic design artist. The website looks like my 7 week old godson did it, and clearly we know what that means. Due to the lack luster creativity of his website, I truly believe the movie Set it Off Again would be as horrible as his website is.

Mr. Brooks went ahead and chose those he felt would be great to star in the movie:

Taraji P. Henson
Zoe Saldana
Teyana Taylor
Jada Pinkett-Smith

Now looking at his website and looking at the star-studded cast above, I truly believe he would not be able to afford them because he can't afford to build a professional website. On another note I must say he does have the attention of his audience due to the movie he is trying to remake. I don't know Mr. Brooks; this can both be a break into the industry for you and put you where you need to be, mainly with a new graphic design artist. Or, the movie could be a bust just like your website and your name could be tarnished forever. Whatever the case may be I definitely will keep you all in tune with what's next with this project as soon as I get more word on it.

  1. I have been to Mr. Donald Dankwa Brooks' web site, his facebook page and looked at his history of films, writing and such. Where did you get your information that he wrote, directed and produced "Set if Off" anything. I would want to believe that he would at least want credit for it.
